Star Model Management Modeling, Mentoring & Talent is teaming up with ZEF for a “Back to School Charity Bash” 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday to help provide orphan and underprivleged children with the means to a quality education. Singers Nancy Harms, Katie Gearty and Rachel Holder take center stage at the Capri in “Blue: Songs on the Indigo Side.” Backed by an amazing jazz trio (Phil Aaron on piano and keyboards, Jay Epstein on drums and Graydon Peterson on bass), these artists will take you on a mystical musical journey as they explore songs of a blue hue. This performance will also be Nancy’s swan song performance as she moves to New York to further pursue her musical career. In this tasty banquet of songs, you will feast on azure renditions of such greats as, Blues in the Night, Little Girl Blue, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and Blueberry Hill. This show was created by local jazz vocalist Arne Fogel.

“Nancy Wilson & Peggy Lee: The Sultry Divas of Jazz,” brings a kind of heat to the Capri to melt the winter’s snow. Ginger Commodore and Connie Evingson have performed nationally and internationally with the award-winning vocal jazz ensemble Moore By Four. In this tribute, they pause to salute two Grammy Award winning jazz vocalists that have brought class and a kind of sultry fire to jazz music. You will certainly experience an “ah” moment as you listen to songs like: Fever, Guess Who I Saw Today? Is That All There Is, Hello Like Before and Black Coffee.

Closing out our season in grand style will be stage diva Greta Oglesby in a solo concert featuring songs from stage, screen and the church house! Even though Greta will be spending another year with the Oregon Shakespeare Repertory, she will make a special trip hom in April to grace the Capri’s stage! In “I Sing Because…,” Greta will surely breathe life into songs such as Lot’s Wife (Caroline or Change), Great is Thy Faithfulness, and Timoune (Once on this Island). Backed by Sanford Moore on grand piano, this show will bring a sort of “living room” performance intimacy.

With its new theatrical lighting grid, enhanced sound system and expanded lobby, the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis is now a beautifully renovated 250-seat venue for the performing arts, community gatherings and more.
With our first phase of renovations now completed, the Capri is once again available for rent. To inquire about renting the Capri Theater, please fill out the rental request form below.
We’ve invested in new theatrical lighting, speakers, a 20-foot motorized projection screen, state-of-the-art LCD projector and a full complement of stage curtains.
The lobby has been expanded into what was once a classroom, opening it up to West Broadway with floor-to-ceiling windows, and we retrofitted our marquee with electronic LED reader boards.
The Capri Theater is owned and operated by Plymouth Christian Youth Center, and our goal is to “bring up the lights on West Broadway” by making our venue available to arts and community organizations at affordable rates.
Starting rates for an evening rental at the Capri are $350 Sunday through Wednesday and $400 Thursday through Saturday. Rate includes onsite tech person for basic audio/lighting with up to two microphones. Rental fees will vary depending on scope of onstage production.
We require proof of liability insurance for all rentals (company and policy number), as well as a 10 percent non-refundable deposit for booking a date, which is applied to your rental fee) Also, we require a refundable damage deposit, which starts at $100 and is determined by the number of days you will be using the Capri.
Chris Roberts from Minnesota Public Radio includes references to Prince’s historic 1979 concerts at the Capri Theater.
Marty Keller, owner of Media Savant Communications in Minneapolis, witnessed the beginning of Prince’s ascent but probably never would have predicted it. Keller was writing for City Pages in the late 1970s, and went to see a teenage Prince play at the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis.
