After Regina Marie Williams delivered a stellar tribute to Eartha Kitt earlier this Legends season, we knew we had to bring back “Eartha … The Whole Kitt & Kaboodle!” This summer we’re pleased to launch a new series: Classic Capri. These summer concerts provide us with an opportunity for us to feature some of our favorite Legends concerts, and we’re pleased that Regina, Dan Chouinard (piano) and Greg Hippen (bass) can return to our stage for three special concerts, including a weekday noon matinee. 12 noon Friday, June 21, 2013 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013 Single tickets are $20 ($15 for groups of 10 or more). They can be ordered online by clicking on one of the dates above or by calling OvationTix at 866-811-4111. Regina Marie Williams is an Ivey Award winning actress who thrilled Legends concertgoers last year with her amazing and insightful tribute to the music of Nina Simone. Williams is also well known for her portrayal of music legend Dinah Washington in Penumbra Theatre’s production of Dinah Was in 2003. She has starred in productions ranging from She Loves Me to last season’s Guthrie production of The Burial at Thebes. She won a 2010 Ivey Award for her starring role in Mixed Blood’s Ruined. “As a performer, performing at the Capri is really divine,” Regina says. “The stage is not so big that it swallows you up or so small that it doesn’t allow you to spread your wings. The audience is the perfect distance away. You hear them. You feel them. It’s beautiful. It is a spiritual experience. The vibe is good on and off stage.” Dennis and Regina have talked about putting together a tribute to Eartha Kitt for some time, and this show was first presented as part of the Legends series at the Capri in November. “At the start of Eartha Kitt’s last performance in the Twin Cities, I was asked to escort her to the stage,” Dennis says. “I considered Eartha royalty. She had such focus and presence. She’d get you from the first note. She combined theatricality and a rich musical experience, which is the feel we strive for in our Legends series. “There’s no better performer than Regina to capture Eartha’s sensuality,” Dennis adds, “and there’s no better setting than the Capri to provide the intimacy required for this show. Dan is the ideal accompanist for the show, because he’s so intuitive and knows how to give the singer creative space. These June concerts will feature many of the treasures Eartha gave us, including C’Est Si Bon, Guess Who I Saw Today and Santa Baby.”

“Prince played here – the first shows he ever did. Which should be reason enough to check out this renovated Art Deco theater. But here’s another: it’s a regular home to the best vocal-jazz performers in the Twin Cities – Regina Marie Williams, Greta Oglesby, Dennis Spears, Sanford Moore – all of whom you can hear in this intimate, clubby setting for a fraction of what you’d pay to see them in musicals at the Guthrie or Ordway. No staging. No plots. Just great music.” – Minnesota Monthly (November 2011)
